Classes

The Clay Safari (Details) 02.14.2012 to 02.18.2012
The Clay Safari will explore the fun adventures and equipment used to navigate the outdoors! We will use simple ways of hand-building such as pinching forms, working with slabs, and forming objects out of balls of clay. We will also learn about slips and glazes to create color and detail on our safari tools.

Workshops

Dan Murphy Train Workshop (Details) 02.25.2012 to 03.02.2012
Dan Murphy will be in town beginning Saturday, February 25 to lecture, lead and load the train kiln at our Fox Studios. Murphy has twenty years of experience firing wood-burning kilns and is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Utah State University. His list of individual exhibitions include works presented at Tong-In Auction Gallery in Seoul, Korea; Braithwaite Fine Arts Gallery at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, UT and Jundt Museum of Art, Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. If you are interested in participating in the firing please make note of the following guidelines. Bring bisqued wares with you to Red Lodge in a variety of sizes and forms and remember that iron-bearing and porcelaineous clays work best. You will need good sturdy work boots, leather gloves, long sleeve shirt of natural fiber (no plastic or synthetics please), hat, water bottle, notebook/sketchbook, eye and ear protection. You may also want to bring along sea shells and rice hulls to use during the loading process. Don't miss out on an opportunity to work with Dan in February. Call for more information and to reserve your spot in the kiln!
