Marcia Rosner

Red Lodge Clay Center Short Term Resident- AIA 2025

Marcia Rosner Is married to a great guy, with one grown daughter.  She has over 50 years of experience as a professional Potter — both in production and bespoke works; ranging from stoneware to porcelain. Today, she throws mostly functional wheel and some hand-built pottery (with a keen interest in Nerikomi; a Japanese focus with colored clay).

Marcia started her career in 1972 first as a student at CSUN, majoring in Art. As a career potter, she worked as a production potter and was a part of the Stoneware Planter Industry in the 1970s, she also sold her works on the famed Venice Boardwalk.  Over the years, she has also owned and operated 2 studios, where she taught classes and produced her own line of functional ware.  The only time spent away from clay was running the family business and raising her daughter.

Over the years, Marcia has developed an interest on the affect and interaction of colored clay; and ultimately led to the idea of taking glaze away from the pottery.  This curiosity has led her to learn about Nerikomi. The idea of learning this technique and making pottery that was so different, has changed her path greatly in the last decade.

“My early influences with Nerikomi were with the artist Jane Peiser, from Penland Craft School and later Curtis Benzle. This idea also led to studies with leaders in the Nerikomi frontier such as Chris Campbell and Dean McRaine.  I continue to produce Porcelain Cone 10 functional ware and considers Tom Coleman as one of my mentors.”-Rosner
