Lalana Fedorschak was born and raised in Prescott, Arizona, holding a BFA in Ceramics from Northern Arizona University and an MFA in Ceramics from Ohio University. Fedorschak currently serves as Assistant Professor of Art at the University of Louisville. Fedorchak has participated in residencies at Penland and Arrowmont School of Craft, and has received grants from the Great Meadows Foundation and Ohio University. Their work has been displayed in museums, galleries, and artist-run spaces throughout the country.
I am a ceramic sculptor using the animal as a proxy to express human psychic states. I focus on white rabbits because of their cultural coding of luck, curiosity, and transformation. My work explores rabbit interdependence with humans, and the role of the animal as a guide into subterranean networks of awareness. By diffusing human psychology through animal figures, I create a disarming and unsettling distance that invites viewers to laugh, flinch, and see themselves reflected in the work
