Curatorial Statement

Our May 2027 Advanced Student Project Network (ASPN) mentor will be Rick Parsons (more about ASPN below). Rick has guest curated our May exhibition to bring together sculptural works that explore how artists combine clay with other media to expand and deepen the meaning of their practice. Through unlikely pairings and material tensions, these works expose strange interactions where surfaces, structures, and identities are unsettled and redefined. Transformation, resistance, and hybridity drive these works beyond the conventions of ceramics, where the line between material and metaphor becomes fluid and unpredictable, and reminds us all “What If!”
This exhibition will be on view during the ASPN residency, Rick will use it as a teaching tool with our ASPN artists.
Participating artists include Molly Allen, Emily Bivens, David Morrison, Helen Otterson, Rick Parsons, Todd Shanafelt, Adam Shiverdecker, Laura Van Duren, and Stan Welsh.
