“Using fiber clay and hemplime blocks, my work centers around gathering spaces that cultivate connection. I draw inspiration from courtyard structures of support like trellises, pergolas, and woven vessels. Overlapping laths create anchors—forms to hold onto and grow from. The openness in my work invites empathy and human interaction. Fiber clay and hemplime are materials that shape our environment and provide shelter. Made from hemp shiv, lime, and water, hemplime is durable, insulating and acts as a carbon sink. My work invites viewers to gather, slow down, and linger.”- Valenti
