I build abstract compositions using a simple vocabulary of curves and lines on fields of color. Improvisation is key in my work as a directional force because clay demands a high degree of technical skill which can stunt creativity. I hope to use the abstract nature of color to tie my designs to emotions and experiences and to explore a world of meaning not within reach of any other design element. On top of these fields of color, my mark making is precise while the overall designs are unplanned. The play between improvisation and precision is at the heart of my work. Like a rorschach test, I explore the connections conjured in the mind when there is a lack of representational imagery.
