Pattie Chalmers grew up in Winnipeg. She received a BFA in printmaking from the University of Manitoba in 2006 and completed her MFA in 2001 at the University of Minnesota. Chalmers works steadily and exhibits widely having presented work on 5 continents, in 6 countries and in 25 US states. Since 2006 Chalmers has lived and worked in Carbondale, where she is an associate professor of art at Southern Illinois University. (She might be a little bit compulsive, and she definitely likes to laugh at her own jokes).

I create narrative tableaus and vessels using the images culled from childhood tales, four-for-a-dollar comic books, movies-of-the-week, and personal experience. My work is a collage of these influences in combination with historical and imagined elements that reveal my observations about identity, ideologies and our humanity.
