Adult Ceramics – Woodfire (10 Weeks) Winter/Spring 2020

This 10-Week Adult Ceramics class is open to all levels (Beginning- Advanced) and will focus on the wood-fire process. This involves using specific high-temperature clay and will culminate in a firing of RLCC’s “train” Wood kiln at our Fox studio location. During the lead-up to the firing, Instructors will work with students and cover specific formal and aesthetic issues regarding wood-firing. Specifically, we will cover techniques that encompass wheel-throwing and hand-building as well as using slips and glazes specific to the process to achieve desirable results. We will be welcoming back one of our former Long-term Residents, Perry Haas who will lead the class and the firing in April. In addition, we will also have current Long-term Resident, Jon Green assist with the weekly demos and instruction for this course. RLCC 10-week adult clay classes include one 25lb. bag of clay with the purchase of the class as well as access to our ‘open studio’ hours. These times occur during RLCC Gallery business hours when there are no other scheduled classes or events. Additional clay is available for purchase through RLCC, we do not allow outside clay into the studio. *Please keep in mind that this class requests that students to be available for participation for the Wood-Firing and physically able to lift 25-30lbs. If you are unable to lift weight or participate in the physical activities of the wood-firing process, or, unable to attend due to scheduling please address this issue with the instructors on the first day of classes.
